Sir William Rowan Hamilton (18051865) was an Irish physicist, astronomer, and mathematician who made important contributions to mechanics, optics, and algebra. As a teenager, he mastered parts of Newton's Principia and studied Laplace's celestial mechanics treatise. When barely 22, Hamilton became a professor of astronomy at University of Dublin, however he was more interested in theoretical rather than practical astronomy. His studies of mechanical and optical systems led him to discover new mathematical concepts and techniques. His greatest contribution is perhaps the reformulation of Newtonian mechanics, now called Hamiltonian mechanics. This work has proven central to the modern study of classical field theories such as electromagnetism, and to the development of quantum mechanics. In mathematics, he is perhaps best known as the inventor of the quaternion, which is a mathematical concept that find uses in both theoretical and applied mathematics, in particular for calculations involving three-dimensional rotations such as in three-dimensional computer graphics, computer vision, and the attitude-control systems of spacecraft. Hamilton is said to have shown immense talent at a very early age. He had a remarkable aptitude for languages as a youth. As a young man, his talents turned to mathematics of astronomy and physics. Astronomer John Brinkley remarked of the 18-year-old Hamilton, "This young man, I do not say will be, but is, the first mathematician of his age Famous Astronomers - List of World Famous Astronomers List and biographies of world's most famous astronomers Kids have always looked up at the sky and wondered what those glimmering lights lighting up the night William Rowan Hamilton - Wikipedia Life William Rowan Hamilton's scientific career included the study of geometrical optics classical mechanics adaptation of dynamic methods in optical systems Sir William Rowan Hamilton Biography - Facts Childhood Sir William Rowan Hamilton was one of the greatest scientists to be born in Ireland Check out this biography to know about his childhood family life achievements Telescopes Neil Englishnet Date: 250317 Time: 00:35 to 00:45 UT Seeing: 25 poor transparency owing to rather dense haze Temperature: +4C Instrument: 204cm f/6 Newtonian x 200 unfiltered Isaac Newton - Mathematician Biography Facts and Pictures Early Life Isaac Newton was one of the greatest and most influential men to have contributed to numerous fields such as physics mathematics astronomy philosophy Physics - Simple English Wikipedia the free encyclopedia Physics is a branch of science It studies matter and all forces and their effects Modern physics connects ideas about the four laws of symmetry and conservation of Aryabhata - Mathematician Biography Facts and Pictures More about Aryabhata Aryabhata was a very intelligent man The theories that he came up with at that time present a wonder to the scientific world today BibMe: Free Bibliography & Citation Maker - MLA APA Using other peoples research or ideas without giving them due credit is plagiarism Since BibMe makes it easy to create citations build bibliographies and 1840s - Wikipedia Emir Bashir Shihab II controlled the Mount Lebanon Emirate at the beginning of the 1840s Bashir allied with Muhammad Ali of Egypt but Muhammad Ali was driven out of The 100 Greatest Mathematicians - fabpedigreecom The Hundred Greatest Mathematicians of the Past This is the long page with list and biographies (Click here for just the List with links to the biographies
